Living in Oklahoma City: Pros and Cons
Oklahoma City, the capital and largest city of Oklahoma, offers a unique blend of urban and rural lifestyles. Known for its history, vibrant culture, and evolving economic landscape, this city presents an intriguing choice for prospective residents. As with any metropolis, living in Oklahoma City in 2024 has its advantages and disadvantages.
The housing market in Oklahoma City is one of its most attractive features. In 2024, the median home price is $197,000, significantly lower than the national average, making it an excellent place for first-time homebuyers and those looking to invest in property. The city offers a variety of housing options, from downtown lofts and modern apartments to suburban homes and historic properties with an average monthly rent of $1,700.
Neighborhoods like Nichols Hills, Edmond, and Midtown offer distinct living experiences, catering to different preferences and lifestyles. Nichols Hills is known for its upscale homes and affluent residents, while Midtown offers a more urban, trendy atmosphere with walkable streets and a vibrant nightlife. Edmond, a suburban area, is popular among families for its excellent schools and community amenities.
Oklahoma City's economy is diverse, with significant contributions from the energy, aerospace, healthcare, and technology sectors. The energy industry, particularly oil and gas, has long been a cornerstone of the local economy. Companies like Devon Energy and Chesapeake Energy are major employers. However, the city has been working to diversify its economic base to reduce vulnerability to fluctuations in energy prices.

Palmdale used to be OK when the 1984 Olympics was being ready. L.A.County paid many people to move up hear and it brought gangs and the crime rate went up. Now we're seeing more homeless people being brought up and WELL look at the parks and streets

I ran a 21km half marathon in the mohave desert back in 2016. There was only 100 participants but the event organizers were very nice. It felt surreal running in the desert for 1 hour and 50 minutes. I definitely wouldn't want to live in this community but it was a great experience.

I lived in Hinkley,CA, 30 minutes away from Barstow. The outskirts of town if you will. Moved out the same week I graduated High school. Not that it was terrible just was young and missed San Diego,CA. It is insanely hot. Might get some snow in winter too. You get both extremes of weather. Have gone back once and I think Covid really hurt town. Saw more shops and places closed than before.

Barbara, I wish you luck living in Palmdale. I hope everthing works out. We are putting our house up for sale on June 15th. We can no longer tolerate the disrespectful citizens of Palmdale or the taco carts that have inundated our community. Especially the idiot on our block who has twice tried to start a taco stand in his home. This is ridiculous. There is a common denominator in all this. But I'll let you figure out what that may be. As for sex offenders, thank you for doing your part years ago in hopefully sending Mario back to jail. Good luck

@@charlieking9214If you’re moving out of California I suggest you think about what you are doing. Despite the cons ,because wherever you go. There will be cons. If you don’t great weather ,great places and great food. Then proceed to sell you’re home. Because no other state in this country will offer you what CA does.

MAY 2024. Just spent 10 days in Progreso. Although this is the off season for most foreign travellers, Progreso is a very friendly, safe town, with many Restaurants and places to get a cold one as this time of year was 40C + most days. While, I was there, I noticed that there was not much nightlife, as most establishments were closed by 10:00 p.m. If you are looking for a safe and quiet destination the Progreso and area are ideal. Ideal for Retired expats and this area is growing at a phenomenal rate. Only 20 minutes from Merida with many big city options with Costco , Walmart and shopping centres.
